36 Hours in Sydney Australia

May 19, 2020

I know it’s not much time, but you make do with what you have, and I had 36 hours.   I arrived in Sydney at 6:10 AM on a nonstop flight from Denpasar.  Yeah, that’s Bali and a story for another day.

My driver met me at the end of the customs hall and off we went my home for the next 2 very short nights at the Park Hyatt Sydney.  This hotel is the ultimate address in Sydney, just as all Park Hyatt’s are!

WOW, huh!

After getting in my room and resting for a bit it is time to hit the ferry and make my way to the Taronga Zoo for my ‘Behind the Scenes Tour’ of the zoo.  The ferry ride was 12 minutes from the departure point at the Circular Quay. Such an enjoyable experience, and check out my view!

What a wonderful experience! When I arrived, I checked in and was whisked away to go seriously behind the scenes at the zoo.

We had a personal host that took us back to the secret parts of the zoo that the most guest doesn’t ever see.  She showed us how the zoo runs smoothly so they can take such good care of the animals.

It was such a pleasure to see what it takes to maintain the healthy life for the animals.  I especially enjoyed feeding and petting animals that were so new to me.  Of course we were able to visit the Iconic Australian Animals we all know and love…

In the kitchen, we learned how all the animals balanced diets are maintained.  They have specific food for each meal, breakfast, lunch and dinner.

With the fun times at the zoo behind me, I headed to the Rocks.  The Rocks is the site of Australia’s first white settlement.  It  is Sydney’s most historic area. The name was derived from the rocky sandstone soil found in this area. Check out the funky art created on this stairway!

There was so much to see! However, on my time table, I had to move along pretty quickly.  I next headed out to see the World Famous, Bondi Beach!  It is no wonder this is listed as one of the best beaches in the WORLD! Before I made it to the beach, I had and check out at the Royal Botanic Garden.  What a wonderful place to explore!

Bondi Beach was everything they say and more!  What a fantastic beach.  I could have stayed a week!  You can surf, play in the water, learn to surf or you can lay in the sun and sand and enjoy your day! Look at that water!  Lovely!

After a great time at the beach I made my way back to Sydney for my evening Opera House tour.  If you are in Sydney, don’t miss an Opera House tour.  It is spectacular.  If you can fit in a show, I would highly recommend putting it in your schedule.

The tour of the Opera House and learning the history of the struggle to get it built was incredible, but much to my surprise, seeing it during the annual VIVID event was breath taking!

Vivid SydneyVivid Sydney is an annual festival of light, music and ideas, held in Sydney. It includes outdoor immersive light installations and projections, performances by local and international musicians, and an ideas exchange forum featuring public talks and debates with leading creative thinkers.
